Jennifer and Dennis came over to the island on their BMW, and the truck only seats 3, so we had to go in two cars everywhere we went. Until Dennis asked us when the last time we saw a cop on the island. Not too recently. They rode in the back on the way to our new lot, we rode in the back on the way home. Just as Dennis pulled up to the intersection of Mitchell Bay and West Valley Road, the sheriff drove by. Looking straight ahead, not at us. Very thrilling.
Jennifer, Dennis and I enjoy the sun, beers, a cigar and our books at the new lot.
Hawk and I have gone to the new lot at least twice each day. This day was disappointing because it was cloudy and gloomy all day. Then we noticed it was clear, just at sunset.
The next day, we had big winds from the southwest. We caught a great shot of surf against the cove at Pingree rock.
The pastures where there used to be hundreds of alpaca now have hundreds of sheep. More every day. The lambs are so incredibly adorable, so teeny tiny. Really, more every day. It's much better than alpacas, who don't seem to give birth in March.
We found an architect! We have admired this house since we first saw it being built last summer. There used to be a tiny house on it, but she moved it over to her property by the pond.
The architect lives in the house across the marsh from us that looks a little like ours -- cedar shingles and a green metal roof. We love driving by the pond, it looks so romantic.
One of the cool things Nina LeBaron is doing with this house is putting a sod roof on the garage. It will make it disappear into the hill.
Another cool thing is the northwest detail on the roof trim. She saw something like this on the roof of a building in English Camp and adapted it for the house. We also like her combination of board and batten with shingles on the sideing. And the arts and crafts style of the house.

We waited and waited for the weather to get less than gloomy and cold, and finally on Saturday it was beautiful, warm and sunny. We celebrated on Otter Lane in the late afternoon.

We spent three days measuring where every tree on the lot is. We put little numbers on each tree and then measured from the lot line between three and four (we are four) and then also from the middle of the road. And we picked our building spot and the spot where we will put the guest house. The whole thing is already built in our heads...
Here's the view from the guest house/garage.
Here's the view from where the main house will be.
Another big job was letting water out of the pond, which was so full you couldn't see the new shape. So we dug this creek and lined it with river rock. Then we seeded the banks of the pond with grass. After checking with the ag extension agent to make sure geese don't eat the seeds! Nothing but geese tracks, all around that pond.
