We decided to splurge on our anniversary and made a reservation at Sooke Harbor House, near Victoria on Vancouver Island. We took the Sidney ferry and drove over in the miata. I picked the best room in the place, and arranged for us to have a couples massage in the afternoon before dinner.

We took a bottle of champagne and stopped at a govenment liquor store to buy gin. That's when we discovered Victoria's gin. We bought half a case on our way to the ferry the next day. Delicious.

Here's a shot of the tub in the room, which we did not use. But we did have an exquisite dinner at their restaurant, which is famous. We also brought a bottle of 1970 wine that the McIvers gave us, it was absolutely incredible.

Here's a shot of part of their fence, which made me start thinking about a deer fence as an architectural feature instead of just functional and as invisible as possible. You know where that ended up!

Haley and Paisley are in our red sweaters, and everyone is hanging out eating croques for the traditional Thanksgiving lunch.

Haley called dibs on Thanksgiving, but when it became clear that everyone she invited was actually going to come, we all figured it would be better to do it at Paisley and Peter's where there is a little more room. Here are Carlene and Kelley enjoying themselves at the table. We put the three tables together in a triangle, and all of the kids sat at the triangular coffee table set into the center of the triangle. The adults were all around the outside. It was perfect!

W And everyone who had them was wearing their red flower Anthropologie sweaters, and we were drinking pomegranate martinis.

Haley had her sweater on earlier, isn't this a beautiful picture of her? Love the way she curled her hair that day.

We all got these beautiful eye decorations from Lainey.

After dinner, there was a lot of relaxing going on. Claire and Charlie were adorable on the couch together.

So were Ray and Lainey.

Not Kit, of course. Here she is getting caught trying to do the dishes.
