We went to Maui with Paisley and Peter and the kids for a week, it was heavenly. We stayed at the Four Seasons Resort at Wailea, the smallest, most beautiful and elegant resort on that beach.

Running in the sand.

Cora loves the beach.

Paisley worked from 7:30 to 5 every day. Here she is on the beach, working.

Our toes got wet and sandy.

Peter and Steve rented these surfboards with paddles one morning with very little wind. Steve is a lifelong surfer, but Peter looked a little better on that board.

The resort had 4 pools, the kids pools were fabulous. Morgan found the slide on our first day.

Peter carefully takes Amelie down the slide.

But no need. Amelie had no fear.

Someone is always there to catch her.

The tiny kid pool (maybe a foot deep) was perfect for Amelie, she loved it.

One of Paisley's operators came with us to dinner at the beachside bistro of the Grand Wailea resort next door.

Hawk at the restaurant.

The next day, Hawk and Peter and the kids got up at 3:30 to drive up to the top (10,023 feet) of the Haleakala volcano so they could see the sunrise. To the south they could see the colcanos on Hawaii, 60 miles away. It was cold up there but the drive down was spectacular -- steep even slope fools your eyes about height.

saturday Hawk and Peter went to the Iao valley, royal capital of Maui and one of four valleys the Hawaiins developed for intensive agriculture. Also site of Kamehameha's decisive victory going on to be king of all Hawaii in 1790. The 2000-foot needle here didn't erode when everything around it did. The crater walls behind are almost vertical and way taller.

Looking up the valley -- that's a long way. They walked up about a half mile, but didn't event get to where it leveled out again.

Looking down toward the city and the ocean.

A neglected banana grove with some flowers and fruit.

Peter checking out the bananas.

The forest floor under a grove of pepper trees.

One of two big streams several days after any rain -- lots of signs warning about flash floods at any time.

We planned to eat dinner on our last night at a local sushi restaurant, but it was too popular. So we got the kids McDonald's and watched the sunset. Then the four of us went to Spago!

Morgan and Cora took over on slide duty with Amelie.

They were so careful they even kept the top of her head dry!
