Since France, we did a week in Madison to pack up the apartment and we've been here on the island working so hard since. We are really close to being finished, except we keep thinking of great fun things to add, and sometimes we divert to them. The safety fence was definitely on the list, but very fun. We set concrete and then drilled holes for rebar into the Madrone and the concrete. Then we drilled holes in the poles and strung wire with turnbuckles, and capped the tops of the poles with some copper. It looks great, beautiful but invisible, and it feels so safe down there now. Note the level Ti-House at Hawk's Cove.
This is little Mari Peterson, sharing a cigar with me. Her father challenged her to do it! Very sweet couple (Ann and Kevin) that we met at Nina's birthday party. Kevin gave me the idea of toping the madrona posts with copper.
This flattened out space in the shape of a deer is right outside our front door. Really.
Haley and Liam and Charlie and Paisley and Peter and Morgan and Cora all came last weekend and helped us with stairs. They built beautiful cedar stairs down from the garden deck.
And they put a gate at the top of the stairs to our outside deck. When it's closed, the deer will stay out and the babies will stay in.
Peter and Cora and Morgan and I all went for a kayak ride.
Charlie found a very cool basket, which she took with her to investigate her favorite place in our house.
We moved the Ikea barbeque to the water side, finally, and built a platform for it. It's perfect, the smoke goes past the house and Hawk and reach it from the cocktail area and from the main deck.
