We've been working on the door that Peter found in the alley, it's 2 and 1/4 inches thick, so we need a non-standard door system (on order). I've been trying to paint authentic looking wood with my acrylics over the worst holes and dings that were filled with wood filler. I wasn't too happy about it. Then we saw this gorgeous gourd in an art gallery on the island.
So I got this idea, why not buy the gourd (great excuse!) and make it a centerpiece of art in the entry way of the house, maybe on a pedestal between two benches. And then do a riff on the gourd's art on the door, covering up all the mess. Here's how the outside of the door might look.
And the inside.
So I've finished painting the outside of the door and it is even better than I thought it would be. So beautiful! I've sprayed it with polyurethane and Hawk is fitting the mitered trim pieces in against the beveled glass. We'll turn it over and I'll start on the inside when it's finished. I didn't bring the power for my camera, so no more pix, sorry. Bill and Matilda were here for a couple of days, they saw whales both days. It's a little cool, mid 60s, so I'm still wearing my winter clothes without the wintersilks, though. Tomorrow Rees and Mattie arrive with their kids on the Victoria Clipper, we'll pick them up and drive them out here for lunch. Bonnie Teschendorf got in this morning (Sunday) instead of last night as planned (her flight was late), so we got to have dinner with Paul and Nina, so fun. They think we should open a cheese shop in the new shopping center their friend is building on Front Street, and we are really thinking about it.
