We had a great time with our Martha Stewart shooting stars, but really, it's time to take them down. We took this shot so we would remember how to put them back up next November! Weren't they great?

We flew to Tucson and then to San Jose to hang out with Peter and Meredith and Bill and Matilda. No pix from Tucson, but we took a great trip to Morro Bay and San Luis Obispo with them.
Here are some really beautiful flowers on a bush near our SLO motel. I forget what they are, but so cool.
We walked around the little town, the weather was so beautiful.
The next day, we drove to the Hearst Castle, first time I ever saw it up close from land. We always looked at it from Pfeiffer Cove on our way up or down the coast. We stopped to look at the baby elephant seals, sunning on the beach.
Haley and Liam and Mac and Charlie came to stay with us for a week right after Mac was born. Here's Mac about a week old. So much expression in his adorable little face!
He sleeps a lot.
Kit and Carl came by in Sunshine Patriot, isn't she beautiful? Now she's in Lake Union, waiting to be sold, replaced by the incredibly elegant Teal.
They took a picture of us, too.
We got a Maine cot and some Ikea bedding for Charlie so she could sleep with us like Cora and Morgan do. Except Charlie decided to forget her sleep rules. She kept popping up, and one of us standing outside her room holding the door shut doesn't work when she uses the nuclear option: taking off her jamas and removing her diaper. It took us a while to figure out that we had to "fix" her jamas by sewing the top shut!
We did have some wonderful peaceful evenings, though. Note the great glass walls on our infinite edge deck, just finished before they came.
And then there's the scotch and cigars down at Pingree Rock. It really doesn't matter that it's only 45 degrees...
Very exciting in May -- Nancy Mee (Marty's cousin) and Dennis Evans, two wonderful Seattle artists, came to install our new sculpture. It's a gorgeous fused glass piece that Nancy made.
We used fir poles from our property (to match the ti-houses) and set them in gravel and concrete. Then we leveled the tops and set Nancy's metal caps on them.
And there it is! Could anything be more beautiful or more perfectly placed? We can see it from the house, and the kayakers really notice it. We invited a bunch of friends and ate tostadas and had margaritas and some of Suzy's very inferior guac.
We had Haley and Liam and Rob and Nicole and the kids for father's day, check out the great shots of that weekend at rob and nicole's site. The next weekend, Paisley and Peter came to celebrate too. We painted trim and figured out the compass rose tile inset for their front door area. Paisley gave Amelie a bath in the sink.
On Saturday night, just as we were putting the kids to bed, all three pods of killer whales swam by.
It was so amazing, they were pretty close. It was wonderful because it was the solstice and those whales went right by Lime Kiln point, where they were doing their annual whale sing.
They hung around and one of them jumped three times, right out of the water. It was glorious.
